The (Almost) Perfect Daughters Blog Tour: Nonnie Jules

Author Bio:
My name is Nonnie Jules. Born in the mid-70’s in Texas, family relocated to Shreveport, LA when I was a mere toddler, and this is where we reside even now. I am the wife of one dear Hubby and two darling daughters. 1 a young adult in her mid-20’s and the other a teenager. We live on a huge tract of land where we have many dogs, horses, rabbits, turtles, fish, you name it (with the exception of cats which I don’t DO), we probably have it living somewhere around us. It is quiet and peaceful here and allows my mind to wander in many directions, which leads to much success in my writing. I hardly ever experience any kind of writer’s block, unless I am extremely sleepy. I love to exercise my body and my brain and walking as well as running gives me the outlet to do both. This is my first self-published book and it is entitled “THE GOOD MOMMIES’ GUIDE TO RAISING (ALMOST) PERFECT DAUGHTERS”, 100 Tips On Raising Daughters Everyone Can’t Help But Love! It’s on sale now thru June 17th for only $.99 at viewbook.at/B00CP62O56

Book Cover BlackINTRODUCTION

The Bible (Proverbs 22:6) says: “Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it.” In honor of full disclosure, I must begin by saying that I AM NOT a doctor of any kind, I have no degree in child psychology and by no means at all am I perfect. What I am though, is the mother of an adult daughter and a teenage daughter. These “Angel” Daughters, as I call them, are truly (ALMOST) Perfect! They’re honest, intelligent, driven, compassionate, loving, God-filled and very, very respectful…all rolled up together. I often wonder how I was so blessed to be chosen as the one to MOTHER them. My eldest daughter graduated high school, college and grad school with her VIRGINITY still intact! How many moms can boast of that? And no matter how others may deny that keeping your virginity that long is no big deal, I know that it’s something to really be proud of, especially since it’s not the easiest thing to do. Not taking anything away from my husband, their father, because he has certainly been there every step of the way in guiding them, but because I did MY part as a GOOD MOMMY to these two, I happily proclaim that I am a SPECIALIST in the child rearing department of Daughters.

My teenager, when asked why she will not consider becoming an attorney , responds with, “There is no way I could defend someone who might be guilty. I just couldn’t do it, Mommy.” I always tease her about becoming an attorney, just so I can hear this response. I never tire of it. Her character shines through in that one little statement.

So many times, when our daughters take the wrong path, we wonder…”What is wrong with HER? What is SHE doing wrong?” We fail to look inside, at our own parenting skills where sometimes, the majority of the blame just might lie. Have you ever stopped to think “WHAT DID I DO WRONG?’ WHAT COULD I HAVE DONE BETTER?’ and even better “WHERE DID I FAIL HER?” So many Moms are busy focusing on themselves these days, when what they should really be focused on, are their kids…especially their daughters. I was blessed enough to be a stay-at-home Mom for both of my “Angel” Daughters. They never had to go to daycare, they were never latch-key kids, and I was always, always there for them. But even if I had not been there, even if I had no choice but to go out and become a part of the workforce, I would have still made them my TOP PRIORITY. It is my deepest belief that if we spend more time nurturing, focusing and guiding our children, and less time trying to amass material things which will never be a direct reflection of us as parents, we would have more daughters who are (ALMOST) perfect.

ACTUAL TIP FROM BOOK:

FOCUS ON BEING HEALTHY, NOT BEING SLIM
Almost every magazine you pick up today has pictures of pencil-thin models. Our daughters are bombarded with these images and made to think that this is the norm. IT IS NOT! Do your research so you will be able to intelligently explain to your daughters what these models do to stay so thin, and how it is the nature of that horrible business to stay so thin. Let her know that the methods used, are clearly sometimes deadly. Whether they are a size 4 or a size 14, we must stress to our daughters that they are loved regardless. Encourage them to focus on always being healthy, and less-focused on being thin. Since I am a health enthusiast, I tend to believe that healthy and thin go hand and hand anyway.
