Self-Publishing and Author Central

This has been a busy and productive week on the writing front. My word-count hasn’t been extremely high but I am getting words on the page. It’s like I’m learning a new skill and in actuality, I am. Novel writing is different than short stories. I find myself stopping to ponder the next step more often.

Remember when I told you about pen-names and my reasonings for using them? Well, I’ve decided not to use one. I got to thinking, I won’t write anything that would shame me or my family – I don’t need a name to keep me on the right track. I was over-thinking. As usual.

Abandon CoverI’ve also mentioned the short story Abandon several times and wondered what to do with it. As an experiment, I’ve self-published to Amazon. It’s available for your Kindle for $0.99. You can purchase a copy here. Right now it is exclusive to Kindle Direct Publishing and Kindle Owners’ Lending Library.

There is no way of knowing if this endeavor will produce any revenue but since it is free, I thought what the heck. The story isn’t long enough to be published as a Kindle Single; 5000 words is the minimum for those. I’ll keep that in mind as I work on other short stories. Once I know the fate of Miltonia Butterflies (still waiting on results of contests) I’ll consider publishing it as I did Abandon.

If you would be interested in reviewing Abandon, I’m looking for about five people to share their thoughts. I can send you a pdf file to read. All I ask is that you give an honest opinion and share it on Amazon. Leave a comment and I’ll get in touch with you.

I’ve also created a profile on Author Central. I’ve posted a picture there, and here, of which I’m not fond. Getting publicity shots is on my to-do list. Let me know what you think of the profile and how I can make it better. I’m a beginner and need all the help I can get.

In an odd aside, when I hosted Incurable Disease of Writing I was an Amazon affiliate. I thought I would re-enroll now that I have a new blog but for some reason I can’t because I’m a resident of Arkansas. Huh? I’ve sent an email to Amazon inquiring about the change.

I hope you’ve all been as productive in your writing projects as I have been this week.

Happy Writing,
