Books: Picture the Dead by Adele Griffin & Lisa Brown

Picture the DeadPicture the Dead by Adele Griffin
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Hmmm… What do I say about this book? It’s not your normal ghost story.

Picture the dead is set during the Civil War. Jennie, a ward to “barely blood relations,” loses both her twin brother and her fiance to the war. Her fiance’s brother returns, battle weary and secretive. It’s her beloved that leads her to the truth from the grave and it turns out her whole life had been somewhat of a lie.

I enjoyed this book immensely. It was suspenseful and descriptive. The characters were interesting and Jennie’s revelations caught me by surprise just as they did her. It’s a great snapshot of Northern life during the Civil War and the use of photography as another character was brilliant.

I recommend this to those young and old who like suspense and history.
