Blog Hop

My friend Pati asked me to participate in a Blog Hop. While I’ve done similar posts this is the first time it’s been called a Blog Hop. Anyway, I’m going to answer a few questions then give you links to others that are participating. Please take a few moments to visit them and say hi.

  • What experiences have influenced you?
Life influences me. The women’s fiction novel I’m working on has roots in stretching from my early teens to my early-forties. I’ve noticed a recurring theme of grief and death in my work. It’s not macabre by any means, but it certainly isn’t unicorns and rainbows.
  • Why do you write what you do?
I don’t think I consciously choose what I write. I’ve began projects saying this will be a novel and discover along the way that it’s a short story. I’ve started poems that whose theme can’t be contained in poetic form so I expand it into prose. My current WIP is a novel, though I’ve had to accept the fact it will be a short novel.

Ultimately, none of that really matters. I’m just happy to write. I enjoy the process. Creating characters, giving them voices and letting them run rampant for a while is satisfying. Of course, the time comes when I must reign them in a bit, but as long as I don’t try to change them too much they go along with me. 😉

  • Who are the authors you most admire?
Jennifer Erin Valent, Veronica Roth and Julia Quinn. Three very different authors.

I love Jennifer’s voice, her writing seems so fluid and her characters are realistic. Veronica Roth has created a world in the Divergent series so believable that I found myself absorbed into the pages. Divergent is the only book I’ve ever finished reading then immediately began re-reading. Julia Quinn is a master at humor. I don’t read much straight up romance anymore, but her books are must-reads for me, I devour them.

Now, here are a couple writers you should visit and discover more about:

Tierney James
Nonnie Jules
