Writer Has Pow-Wow With Characters of WIP

As you know, I’ve been whining recently about my lack of direction with my WIP. Not really lack of direction, more of a lack of information.

The past few days, I spent time with my characters. Fleshed them out a bit more. It became apparent that I didn’t know the motivations of a few of them. We sat down, had a little talk, and I’m understanding them better.

You see, I lost control of them while writing. They took off in unexpected directions and left me wondering how to get them back on track. Don’t get me wrong, they went in spectacular directions and I’m glad they did. But now they are in situations I hadn’t planned and I struggled mightily trying to figure out how to resolve their situations and bring the story back to the climax, without it seeming forced.

I’m not ready to start writing again, but I’ve been plotting. My trusty notebook has given me a place to write ideas, and get to know my characters better. I’m back on track. Soon, I’ll be bombarding my CP with chapters. I hope she’s ready for it.

  • It is sometimes hard when the characters do their own thing and then clam up when they get stuck between a rock and a hard place and expect us to know exactly how to get them out of it.

Glad your sit-down with them is helping pave the way to finishing their story!

    • Thanks for stopping by, Taryn. I think things are starting to click in my brain again. Hope to continue writing soon.
