The Hopeful Loser

Received an email regarding The Writer 2012 Short Story Contest in which I entered Miltonia Butterflies. It listed the semi-finalists. My name was not on the list. Big bummer for me.

There is still a chance that I may place in the Winning Writers – Tom Howard Short Story Contest. Winners will be announced September 15th. More waiting. *sigh*

I read the story again and still feel it is solid. There might be cause for a few changes, but nothing huge. If I don’t get anywhere with the second contest, I’ll probably ask a few friends for a critique. After that, I’ll decide whether to pursue more contests or go ahead and self-publish.

In the meantime, I’ll continue working on my novel. One setback does not justify losing hope.

  • Missy I entered five contests and won one so don’t let it get you down. It doesn’t mean the story isn’t good. It has a lot to do with opinion also. Just like when you are published. Your story won’t be for everyone. If you like your work someone else will too! =)

Elena, the people I’ve let read this particular story really like it, so I know it has an audience. I just need to find the contest that is comprised of judges from that audience. LOL

  • That does suck but as you say it is no reason to lose hope. You can always self publish it or keep it and self publish it in a collection of sorts.

    Good Luck!

Dale, I’ve thought about doing a collection of shorts, but all of my short stories are in different genres. It would be an eclectic anthology. 😉
